Most left Spain (deported, actually) around 1492, which means they lived ther for about 500 years… Lived there, spoke the language, ate the food. So yes, it was their culture.

I would hardly use the term ‘appropriation’ for that, just as Italians in the US didn’t appropriate the culture of the British.
